VNS – Vietnam Ship Services Company provides marine navigation equipment repair and bridge equipment service for vessels calling at ports and anchorages across Vietnam. Our electronics technicians board vessels to troubleshoot, repair and test navigation and radio communication equipment, helping ship owners and managers address equipment faults during a port call.
We work on board at the berth or at anchor and plan each job around cargo operations and the vessel’s departure time.
Marine Navigation Equipment Repair Services
Radar Repair and Service
Our technicians troubleshoot and repair marine radar systems, including faults in the display unit, transceiver and scanner. We also carry out software updates and performance checks. After the repair, we test the radar so that it gives accurate readings.
Magnetic Compass Adjustment
Over time, a magnetic compass develops deviation because of changes in the vessel’s magnetic field, for example after steelwork or cargo changes. We arrange compass adjustment on board through a qualified compass adjuster, where adjustment is required and feasible. After adjustment, the adjuster issues a new deviation card to record the remaining deviation.
MF/HF Radio Repair
We repair and troubleshoot MF/HF radio communication systems, including the transceiver, antenna system and related units. In addition, we carry out software updates where required, so that the vessel’s long-range communication works reliably.
VDR and SVDR Service
We troubleshoot faults in Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) and Simplified Voyage Data Recorder (S-VDR) systems, including the main unit, connected sensors and data interfaces. Depending on the equipment maker and system requirements, we carry out or coordinate servicing and repairs. In addition, we arrange the VDR / S-VDR Annual Performance Test (APT) through our partner, a service agent authorised by the VDR maker. The authorised agent issues the APT certificate for the vessel’s records.
ECDIS, GPS and AIS
We troubleshoot and repair ECDIS, GPS receivers and AIS transponders, including display, interface and antenna faults. Our technicians also check sensor connections, so that position and AIS data reach the bridge equipment correctly.
Gyro Compass and Autopilot
Gyro compass and autopilot faults affect the vessel’s heading control. Therefore, we diagnose and repair gyro compasses, repeaters, autopilots and steering control interfaces, and then check heading accuracy and system response.
Echo Sounder and Speed Log
We repair echo sounders and speed logs, including the display unit, transducer connections and calibration settings. As a result, the bridge receives reliable depth and speed data again.
GMDSS Equipment
We repair and troubleshoot GMDSS equipment, including VHF/DSC radios, Inmarsat-C terminals and NAVTEX receivers. We also service EPIRBs, SARTs and AIS-SARTs, as well as portable two-way VHF radios. As a result, the vessel’s distress and safety communication stays in working order.
In addition, we arrange the annual GMDSS radio survey during the port call through a qualified radio surveyor. The surveyor inspects the radio installation and issues the radio survey report.
Navigation Equipment Inspection and Maintenance
We inspect and service marine navigation equipment based on the vessel’s requirements and maintenance schedule. Our technicians check equipment operation, identify faults and carry out software updates or repairs where the maker and service scope allow. This helps you plan repairs before they affect the vessel’s operation or an inspection.
Equipment Makers We Service
Our technicians service navigation and radio equipment from the major marine electronics makers, including:
| Equipment | Makers |
|---|---|
| Radar and ECDIS | JRC, Furuno, Sperry Marine, Raytheon Anschütz, Kongsberg |
| Gyro compass and autopilot | Tokyo Keiki, Yokogawa, Sperry Marine, Raytheon Anschütz |
| GPS, AIS, echo sounder and speed log | JRC, Furuno, Samyung |
| GMDSS radio | JRC, Furuno, Sailor, Samyung |
| VDR and S-VDR | JRC, Furuno, Consilium |
For other makers or models, please send us the model details so that we can confirm the scope before the vessel arrives.
When You Need Navigation Equipment Repair
- Defects found by Port State Control or class – rectifying deficiencies on bridge or radio equipment before departure
- Breakdown during the voyage – repairing equipment that failed at sea once the vessel arrives in port
- After steel repairs or cargo changes – adjusting the magnetic compass when deviation has changed
- Routine maintenance – periodic inspection and software updates as part of planned maintenance
How We Handle Your Navigation Equipment Repair
- Enquiry – You send us the equipment maker and model, the fault description and the vessel’s port and ETA.
- Diagnosis plan – Our technicians review the fault and prepare the tools and spare parts that may be needed.
- Boarding – We arrange boarding and the movement of tools and parts at the berth or by launch at anchorage.
- Troubleshooting and repair – Our technicians find the cause, carry out the repair and test the equipment.
- Report – Finally, we hand over to the Master and issue a service report with the findings and the work carried out.
Where repairs relate to a Port State Control or class deficiency, VNS provides a service report documenting the work performed and the test results. The attending inspector or surveyor then decides whether the deficiency can be closed.
What You Receive After the Work
After each job, we provide a service report for your records. The report includes the equipment details, the fault found, the work carried out and the test results. For magnetic compass adjustment, the qualified adjuster also issues a new deviation card.
